From Dog Fur to Sweater
First of all the fur was teased out,
washed in warm soapy water and
carefully dried .Then it was put
through the drum carder in small
batches to separate and straighten
the fibres.

|
Some Jacobs fleece was carded and
the batts interleaved with the dog fur to make a sandwich with lots of layers .
|
| The sandwich was split lengthwise
into five or six long strips and
each strip was put through the carder
several times to blend the Jacobs wool
and the dog fur. The grease from the
Jacobs wool helped to stabilise the
dog fur so it could be spun more easily.
The resulting rolags were then spun
as singles, and plied together.

|
After hanking, the wool was washed once
more and carefully dried. When all the
fleece and dog fur has been spun, plied
and washed it was time to get knitting...
